Before we embarked on the journey for CCO101, we were assigned to groups to complete a pre-course assignment; where we had to do self directed learning.
1. To explain a concept/set of concepts from the course pre-allocated to the group
2. Find an example that illustrates the concept/set of concepts that is not covered in the course.
It was said that pre-course assignment is a common feature in our courses. It is meant to help us see the connections between theory and practice during the 3-hour seminars by gaining some familiarity with the materials before starting the course.
So from the contact list from canvas, I met up with my 2 other group mates (there were suppose to be 4 in a group but 1 of the member in our group was said to have dropped out therefore we have 3 members in total) and we brainstormed for ideas to tackle this assignment.
I took a gap year after graduation from polytechnic, hence being the first assignment after so long, it was not easy to stimulate my brain to get the gears working. In view of our assigned concept "Edward's Bernay's Engineering of Consent", I read through our study guide and also researched online for more information regarding the concept. It was enlightening to read about the world of Propaganda and the different methods that were used in the world, although we don't really realise it.
It was hard to communicate with my group mates because we have different opinions and the way we want to structure our assignment differs as well. We met up a few times to discuss. But eventually, as mature young adults, we practise give and take. So everyone's opinions were taken into consideration when constructing our assignment.
I think the only part that I enjoyed was creating the presentation slides. I like playing around with the different animations and designing the layout of slides. I learnt that everyone is different in their own way, have their own strengths and weaknesses. It is necessary to be tolerant of different working styles. The marks gotten for our GBA wasn't ideal but I say it was a great attempt at our first assignment. But I felt that we could have done better if we had thought about the concept from another point of view. |
